Information Booklets

The Competition Authority has published four information booklets. The booklets provide general information on the role competition law and policy play in the economy and what to do if you suspect a breach of competition law.
  • Competition Benefits Everyone: this booklet shows the benefits competition brings to consumers, businesses and society in general. It gives examples of where increased competition has led to better choice and lower prices. It also gives examples of areas of the economy where there could be more competition. This booklet is particularly for those interested in how regulations, legislation and other initiatives by the State can impact on competition.
  • Guide to Competition Law and Policy for Consumers: this booklet gives information on how competition benefits consumers. It contains practical steps on what to do if you suspect the existence of a cartel or other forms of anti-competitive behaviour.
  • Guide to Competition Law and Policy for Businesses: this booklet outlines why competition is good for businesses – small, medium and large. It details behaviour that may fall foul of competition law and what to do if you suspect a breach of competition law.
  • The Detection and Prevention of Collusive Tendering: this booklet provides information to public procurers on the tell-tale signs of bid-rigging and how to report it. In addition, it details steps that can be taken during the tender process to help prevent collusive tendering occurring. Although aimed at procurement officials working in the public sector, this booklet assists all businesses who tender for projects or those who bid for projects.
