The Competition Authority held a conference on sanctions, fines and settlements in cartel cases on the 22nd November 2008. We assembled a group of distinguished judges, members of the Bar and international practitioners to discuss the use of fines, sanctions and settlements to punish and deter cartels.
There were three panel discussions:

The Honourable Justice Mr. John Cooke led a panel discussion on the European Union’s perspective on cartel fines.

The Honourable Justice Mr. Nicholas Kearns moderated a discussion on the economics of fines and sanctions.

The Honourable Justice Mr. Nial Fennelly led a panel discussion on the experience of the Member States with fines and settlements.
