In an interview with David McFadden from the Competition Authority Scott Hammond provided an overview of criminal antitrust enforcement in the United States addressing issues such as: international co-operation in detecting, investigating and deterring cartels; the Department of Justice’s Corporate Leniency programme and experience of jury trials.
Mr Hammond was appointed as Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Criminal Enforcement at the United States Department of Justice in 2005. He previously served as the Division's Director of Criminal Enforcement since 2000. He has supervisory authority over the Antitrust Division's domestic and international criminal antitrust investigations and prosecutions. As Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Criminal Enforcement, he is responsible for reviewing all recommendations to open criminal investigations or bring criminal charges. He is also responsible for reviewing all requests for amnesty under the Division's Corporate and Individual Leniency Policies.
