The Competition Authority v RuaidhrĂ Deasy, Paddy Harrington, Fintan Conway, Raymond O'Malley, Colm McDonnell and George O'Brien
In March 2003 the Competition Authority secured criminal convictions in the District Court in Drogheda against six farmers for breaches of Section 4 of the Competition Act 2002 arising from a blockade and a meeting, which had as its object the prevention of unloading a cargo of grain from the UK.
The convictions were appealed by the defendants and the case was heard de novo in the Circuit Court in Dundalk where, in October 2004, three convictions were upheld and the Probation Act applied to the convicted parties.
