Corporate Services Division
The Corporate Services Division carries out the central administrative functions in the Competition Authority. These functions include corporate governance, financial management and accounting, human resource management, staff development, information technology, legal support services, occupational health and safety, procurement and business planning.
The Division is also responsible for co-ordinating the Authority’s preparation for the proposed amalgamation with the National Consumer Agency, which includes preparing the Authority’s responses to the draft legislation required for this.
The Authority must, like any other State body, carry on its business in compliance with the Code of Practice for the Governance of State Bodies. We have statutory responsibilities as a corporate body and as an employer and also have obligations from other statutes e.g. Freedom of Information, Data Protection, Official Languages, Ethics etc.
The Authority’s financial accounts are audited annually by the Comptroller & Auditor General and reported to the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation. The Authority seeks to ensure that it prudently spends the taxpayer’s money that funds it and with a view to its services representing good value for money. The Corporate Services Division is responsible for ensuring that the Competition Authority’s wishes in this regard are implemented.
